We are now in Shanghai. We are currently staying in a hotel but hopefully we’ll be able to move in to our new serviced apartment next week. Finding apartments here in Shanghai is not difficult but finding the perfect one is and fortunately after 10 days of visiting different flats (prior to that is a month of surveying offers and surfing the net for flats), we found it. The flat was recommended to us by a nice couple who are about to move in to the same building themselves. They are also expats and they Marcus’ superiors at work.
Flat rent is Shanghai is expensive specially those which are in certain locations. The flat we got has 2 bedrooms, 2 toilet/bath, 2 balconies, a storage room, a living room, a kitchen, and a dining room. Compared to our previous apartment in Changchun, this one is tinier but is way more expensive. The cost of living in Shanghai is pretty much the same to that of Europe’s secondary cities so I don’t know if we could really earn a lot here. If we really want to earn, we should tighten our belts more. Dining out and travelling will be less often and shopping budget will be the same but for sure we’ll get less from it (sigh*).
We have two years to live here and we are yet about to see if it was the best decision to move in this city.
